Dole Blasts Kerry...big time

Apparently, former Sen. Bob Dole ripped into John Kerry on CNN a little while ago, saying that he should apologize to his fellow Vietnam veterans for engaging in anti-war protests while they were still fighting the war.

"I respect his record - but three Purple Hearts, he never bled that I know of," Dole told CNN's "Late Edition." "They were all superficial wounds."
"As far as I know he never spent one day in the hospital, I don't think he draws any disability pay. He doesn't have any disability. And he's boasting about three Purple Hearts, when you think of some of the people who really got shot up in Vietnam."

Ouch.

"I think Sen. Kerry needs to talk about his Senate record, which is pretty thin." Dole added. "That's probably why he's talking about his war record, which is pretty confused."

Double Ouch.

I'll bet this isn't what Kerry had in mind when he said, "Bring it on."

Somebody be sure to remind Pat Oliphant that when he draws a caricature of a drunken Bob Dole criticizing Kerry in Oliphant's idea of "redneck English," the beer has to be shown in Dole's left hand, since his right hand and arm were rendered useless by German machine-gun fire in Italy--a wound that Dole spent 3 years recovering from in various military hospitals, and for which he received (as was appropriate) a single Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.

I'd hate to see Oliphant get that wrong--I mean, I'd expect that sort of thing from Ted Rall, but Oliphant's got so much more class . . . .

If you have any doubts how serious John Kerry's injuries are, let's remember that today at age 60 the man can hardly kitesurf.

President Bush just praised John Kerry's service as admirable. If Democrats call Bush a liar, does that mean Kerry's service wasn't admirable?
